Updates on 30-Day Activity Challenge and "Tri" to Reach the Moon

30-Day Activity Challenge:

As of September 20, we have 173 Hite students and teachers signed up for our 30-Day Activity Challenge!

It's not too late to start... Hite students and teachers can still send in their "I'm IN!" cards and begin tracking their screen time and activity time.

"Tri" to Reach the Moon:

Our Hite students, staff, friends, and family have logged an incredible 796.4 miles of walking, running, swimming, and biking since September 10.  If you do any of those activities as a family or on your own, send in those miles and we'll count them!

Below are the milestones we've achieved in the first 10 days of this program  We have traveled the distance:
  1. From Hite to Lexington, KY  (65 miles, reached on Sep 10)
  2. From Hite to Cincinnati, OH  (98 miles, reached on Sep 10)
  3. From Hite to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO  (273 miles, reached on Sep 12)
  4. Across the Commonwealth of Kentucky  (460 miles, reached on Sep 17)
  5. From Hite to New York City, NY  (764 miles, reached on Sep 19)

Keep up the good work, Hite Hawks!  Get healthy and stay fit!

The Proof is in the Pictures

Hite is so excited to introduce these two new programs into our school!  Our families are just as excited as you can see from these two pictures of the bulletin board promoting the healthy lifestyle programs.
"Tri" to Reach the Moon
This bulletin board keeps track of all the mileage from all of the walking, running, biking, swimming done by our families and staff at Hite.

As you can see there is a LOT of orange up there!  Each one of those orange cards is representative of an individual Hite student who has committed to participating in our first 30-Day Activity Challenge.

What It's All About!

This year, we are expanding the scope of the Hite Elementary Hike-a-Thon’s healthy lifestyle focus by launching two additional fitness promotion programs.  The first of these is our “30-Day Activity Challenge.”  From September 10 through October 10, our students will strive to balance every hour of screen time (computers, TV, electronic games, etc.) with one hour of activity.  We have set up a display in the school’s main hallway to showcase the commitment cards of those students taking on the 30-Day Activity Challenge.

In our second fitness promotion program, the Hite family will “Tri to Reach the Moon.”  This program will also begin on September 10, but this fitness initiative will last through the entire school year.  We will tally all miles walked, jogged, run, biked, or swum by any Hite student, staff member, and their families.  For example, if a Hite student asks her mother to join her on a mile walk each day for a week, they will have logged 7 miles each, or 14 miles total.  These 14 miles will be added to our school’s Tri Tally.  If a parent runs a marathon and turns in their mileage, 26.2 miles will be added to the Tri Tally.  Likewise, we have a number of classrooms whose teachers walk a mile with their students each day that the weather cooperates.  Upon reaching 100 miles for the year, these classes are named to Hite’s “100-Mile Club.”  For a class of 24 students plus 1 teacher, these 2,500 miles will be added to our Tri Tally as they are logged.  As our Tri Tally grows, we want to see if our Hite Family can travel the 238,857 miles needed to reach the moon this school year!
